My name is Carolyn Howard and I am a paediatric Speech and Language Therapist working in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk (and surrounding areas). I have always loved language and communication which lead me to study a BA combined honours in French and Spanish and then in 2009 I gained a post-graduate diploma in speech and language therapy from City University.
I am registered with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Good communication skills are fundamental for all aspects of life; for our work, our social life and vitally for our emotional wellbeing. It is for these reasons I am passionate about supporting communication development in children to equip them for life. I set up Chatterbox East after almost 10 years working as part of the Suffolk NHS Speech and Language Therapy Team. During this time, I gained experience in treating a range of communication difficulties and disorders. I have worked with preschool, primary and secondary age children both in clinic and mainstream education settings.
I am qualified and experienced in the use of a range of treatment approaches (Palin Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Lidcombe Early Stammering Intervention Programme, Makaton Signing, Picture Exchange Communication System PECS). My particular areas of interest include speech delay and disorder and language delay and disorder.
Hi, I’m Hannah and I am delighted to be joining Chatterbox East in January 2022 after a 16 year career in the NHS. I qualified with First Class Honours from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 2005, then worked for 9 years in Suffolk clinics and schools. I subsequently took up a Highly Specialist post in speech and language disorders, delivering specialist therapy, training and specialist advice to other NHS therapists and professionals in the trust. I also provided annual sessional teaching as an Associate Lecturer for the University of Essex between 2014-2020, teaching trainee therapists about language disorders, at Batchelor and Masters levels.
I love to come alongside families and schools to problem-solve and collaborate in support of children with communication needs. I believe in bringing the best out of individuals and will work with your child to discover their unique strengths in order to help them fulfil their potential.
I have attended too many training courses to list here, but my therapy is strongly theoretically driven, and always bespoke to the client combining a range of informal/formal approaches. Please do ask is there is a particular technique you are interested in exploring with your child.
